Daghatar the Adamant

Yasova Dragonclaw‘s Abzan counterpart, Daghatar the Adamant, was spoiled today, and here he is, in all his (lack of) glory:

daghatar

So a 4/4 for four, with a decent ability that can either make use of Abzan Battle Priest and kin’s lord-like mechanics or just re-use some Outlast counters from creatures that have played out their role already. It will probably be pretty darn great in Limited, albeit not as bomby as some of the other rares in the set, but my wish for sweet wedge generals has yet to be fulfilled with this bloke. He’s too small to be of any note, even though he is easy to cast and probably will come down sooner than most generals, and his ability hinges on there being more creatures on the board, preferably with either +1/+1 counters on them already, or greatly benefitting from getting +1/+1 counters.

Attacking into Daghatar and a couple of other creatures will be a combat math nightmare at the prerelease, but I don’t think this rare will make a splash in any of the constructed formats.

Do you think I’m mistaken? Is Daghatar a better creature than I’m giving him credit for? Leave a comment!

I agree, he not only looks boring as tar, his card only seems halfway decent to me. If I draft the set and this guy turns up, sure I might give him a spin, but that’s about it.

    • Yeah, he seems great in Limited, 4/4 for 4 is pretty good, especially considering it’s in white. The artwork is pretty cool, though.
